Oil Painting Class

The class includes access to a wide variety of professional studio materials, including:

• Oil paints
• Brushes and palette knives
• Painting mediums (used as appropriate)
• Canvas panels and small canvases
• Drawing supplies for planning and mixed media work
• Studio easels
• Palettes and studio tools
• Mixed media materials as needed for class projects

Students are welcome to bring their own painting surfaces if they wish to work on a larger scale or explore different materials.

Examples include:

• Larger stretched canvases
• Canvas panels
• Wood panels
• Linen panels
• Other paintable surfaces you'd like to experiment with

We'll gladly help you adapt your project to the surface you choose.

Classes may include:

• Oil painting fundamentals
• Color mixing and color theory
• Brush techniques
• Layering and blending
• Composition and design
• Drawing fundamentals
• Underpainting techniques
• Texture and impasto methods
• Finishing and varnishing preparation
• Proper brush cleaning techniques
• Creating original artwork from your own ideas or reference images

Instruction is tailored to each student's experience level, allowing everyone to continue growing as an artist while exploring their own creative style.

Oil painting can be messy! Smocks are available in the studio, but we recommend wearing clothing you don't mind getting paint on.
